Week 1 - Design & Develop a project plan for an interactive multimedia application

What makes an application interactive?

An application is interactive when it is usability to users, it can catch the users' full attention without any much explanation. For example, an iPhone, or a smart phone, it is interactive in a sense that users uses their finger to interact with their device. And also, the application in the phone. Be it a game or a social application. There are interactive when users are able to enjoy the game they play. While for a social application like Facebook, most people will go 'online' to check out the latest news so that they won't feel left out in this modern world.

How can interactivity be exploited in the chosen application?

1. Information Presentation

The information that is presented out must be short and sweet, and most importantly, clear enough for users to understand. For example, if 2 articles of the same content is being posted out, one with longer text while another one is shorter, people will tend to choose the shorter one to read. If an article was too long, users will find it boring and tired to read too much text. Thus, it is important to have a proper and presentable image.

2. Electronic Publishing (Connectedness, Real-time interaction)

An example of electronic publishing is to put on advertising materials on the web devices. Like interactive websites; Facebook, Twitter and etc. Using websites like Facebook or Twitter can help by ' Sharing' or 'Retweet' the news all over the place.

3. Advertising

The common advertising ways are distributing of flyers and advertisements on TV programmes for the past few years. Whereas now, the another powerful advertising ways are using online social website. It could be passed around from 1 people, to many. As long as it is interesting enough, the stronger its advertisement will go.

4. Commerce & Transaction

Commerce is common these days where people goes shopping online. And it's a global interaction too! There's a lot of varieties to choose from, like clothing, foot wears, accessories or electronic devices could be bought through online, and at the same time transaction of money will be though credit card.

5. Education & Training

Educating can be interactive by teaching stuffs thru online. For example, recipes for users, online teaching materials and tutorials that was provided online. Through these steps, it can helps improve users educations. And teachers could be able to train their students through web too.

6. Entertainment (Playfulness)

The best part where interactivity can be best described is through entertainments. Once a game could attract a users attention, they tends to get back to the same game over and over again without feeling bored. Also, games that includes skills or levels motivates players attention span. When one game could satisfy one user, that particular user will pass it on to his/her friends and spreading news about it.

What factors should you consider to enhance the interactivity of your game

The factors that must be included is being 'fun', could attract users' attention span, nice designs and able to understand what the users want. When a game have the components that is stated, they will be able to and willing to spend their time on the game. Playing game requires a skills too. Skills that are logical. This is useful when users have to think of a way to continue their games and making them feeling satisfied after they have succeeded.
